UnCategorized We had a problem at one of the organizations to which I belong. Someone had been entering the building at odd hours, and some things were turning up missing. Everyone who had a key was asked, and all of them denied entering the building. Eventually, a wireless security camera, disguised to look like and air freshener, was put in the lobby. It wasn’t too long before the problem was solved and those involved were dealt with. It was sad for the organization, as trust was violated, but if it wasn’t for that security camera the damage could have been far worse. I wonder what would have happened if we had the foresight to install visible cameras before the problem ever began. For the marginally honest, the mere awareness of a camera can be enough to keep them from crossing the line, and I’m all for anything that is going to encourage people to stay honest. While we would all like to be able to trust one another, the fact remains that it only takes one bad apple to spoil the bunch Sadly, we found that out in the workplace as well. I was on a sales team that awarded some pretty nice incentives. One month, the winner of a particular competition was going to be given a new gaming system, which was left in the office to keep everyone motivated. When the day came, the winner was given an empty box. In the few weeks that it was on display, someone had removed the prize from its packaging and carried it off. No one knew who or when, and since we had no security cameras, there was no way to determine when it happened. What most of us were concerned with after that incident was our own safety. With all of the crimes that can happen in a public office, from theft to mad gunmen, what protection did we really have? One advantage that a wireless camera has over its wired counterpart is portability. The camera can be installed or moved to any location without all of the worry about re-cabling the facility. That means that they can be installed anywhere there is a power source. Depending on the type of system, the video footage can be transmitted to a regular computer and stored on a hard drive for easy retrieval and review. This saves on the cost and storage of the older videotape-style cameras. For safety and protection, I highly recommend in investing in a wireless camera security system for both home and office.
